Wallaby Walk-through now open

Our new Wallaby Walk Through is now open – allowing you to get up close and personal with these amazing animals.

Visitors are able to walk through the centre of the enclosure for a rare encounter with our Bennetts Wallaby and Patagonian Mara.

Hobbledown curator Angela Lambert said: “Wallabies are very friendly animals. Our newest exhibit is designed to give guests a much more personal experience with the animals, allowing them to wander with the Wallabies and actually get inside the enclosure rather than standing on the outside.”

The new Walk Through is located behind the jumping pillows. Entrance is included in your normal Hobbledown admission price.

Throughout the summer holiday period it will be open everyday from 11am to 4pm.

Did you know?  

• Wallabies are mini marsupials from Australia and are related to kangaroos.
• Young wallabies are known as joeys. Adult male wallabies are referred to as bucks, boomers or jacks. An adult female wallaby is known as a doe, flyer or jill. The Hobbledown (Potenesian) name for a Wallaby is a Bouncer.
• Joeys stays in their mother’s pouch for about 235 days.
• Although members of most Wallaby species are small, some can grow up to approximately two metres in length (from head to tail).
• Wallabies are hardy and can live in cold climates. They even live in areas with moderate snowfall.
• Wallabies are herbivores whose diet consists of a wide range of grasses, vegetables, leaves and other foliage.
• A wallaby can jump between 1.5 and 2 meters high. There are many different types of wallaby and all are marsupials.
