Whether you’re looking for a way into the animal industry or just love animals and want to spend more time with them, volunteering at Hobbledown Heathis the perfect opportunity to gain more skills and have fun.

 

Some of the things you may be doing as a volunteer

  • Shadowing the animal keepers providing care to a variety of species
  • Engaging with the public whilst manning our lemur walkthrough
  • Getting to know the individual animals whilst supporting with our training and enrichment programme and carrying out hands on tasks such as helping to groom the ponies and donkeys.
  • Supporting the zoos education and conservation efforts through visitor engagement.

 

What days and hours you would be working

  • We ask for a regular commitment of atleast one day a week volunteering for a minimum of 6 months.
  • Hours available are 08:00- 17:00, 10:00- 15:00, 08:00- 13:00, 14:00- 17:00

 

Who are we looking for

  • Somebody with a passion for animals and a willingness to learn
  • You must be aged 17 or over to volunteer
  • Somebody with a good level of physical fitness as the nature of the zoo is quite physical
  • Whilst we work to accommodate all abilities, volunteers must be able to follow clear instructions and be able to work independently.

Work experience

Requirements for work experience

  • Must be aged 17 or over
  • Must be completing an animal course
  • Must be able to follow clear instructions and be able to work independently
  • Must be reliable, multiple absences without communication will lead to the placement being terminated and offered to another candidate.
